Description
Our Animal Classification lesson plan for grade 4-6 introduces students to classifying as a science process skill, used not only for the animal kingdom but for other areas of science as well. The lesson includes subcategories and goes into depth of the importance of classification in general. During this lesson, students are asked to work collaboratively, with a partner, to classifying different groups of objects using 8 different methods for classification, demonstrating their ability to use all of these methods. Students are also asked to answer questions about the ways classification can be used and why, testing their understanding of the purpose and importance of classification in the sciences.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to define classification, list uses for classification, and identify the stages of classification.
