Description

Our Ask/Answer Q’s – Understanding Non-Fiction lesson plan teaches students how to effectively ask and answer questions in order to gain a greater understanding of a non-fiction text. During this lesson, students are asked to work cooperatively with a partner to read a passage assigned to them by their teacher and create, ask, and answer questions using each of the question words (who, what, when, where, why, how, etc.) as the first words for the question. Students are also asked to read a provided passage and answer questions about it, demonstrating their ability to find relevant information in text.

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to ask and answer questions to demonstrate their understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers.
