Our Ask/Answer Questions for Explicit Understanding lesson plan teaches students strategies for asking questions in order to gain an understanding of the text. During this lesson, students are asked to work collaboratively with a partner to read an article and write questions about the article (and their answers) as they read. Students also practice reading a piece of text and answering questions about the text that help them gain a better understanding of the text as a whole.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers.
