Our Ask/Answer Questions for Understanding Fiction lesson plan teaches students how to ask and answer questions about fiction texts effectively. During this lesson, students are asked to work collaboratively with a partner to read a short story; at the end of each paragraph, they write a question and answer related to the paragraph, thinking of Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How questions. Students are also asked to work on their own to read a passage and answer questions, identifying where in the passage they found each answer.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a fictional text.
