Our Ask/Answer Questions for Understanding Fiction lesson plan teaches students how to ask and answer questions when reading fiction to understand it fully. During this lesson, students are asked to work collaboratively with a partner to read a story and write down questions that they have (while thinking about who, what, when, where, and why questions taught during the lesson) and then answer them. Students are also asked to answer specific questions about stories that they are given as practice using these skills.

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a fictional text.
