Our Fish lesson plan teaches students about fish, including their defining characteristics and some of the different types. Students also compare fish to other types of organisms, learn how to differentiate between different types of fish, and learn related vocabulary.

Our Fish lesson plan introduces students to fish including their characteristics, and the features used to classify fish. The three classes of fish are defined: bony, jawless, and cartilaginous. Additional characteristics of fish include fins, gills, and scales among others, are discussed. During this lesson, students are asked to use their creativity to color in paper scales, write a fact about fish on each, and glue or tape them to a paper fish in order to reinforce facts about fish in a fun and interactive way. Students are also asked to match terms to their definitions, demonstrating their understanding of the lesson vocabulary.

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify features used to classify fish, list several types of fish, compare them to other organisms, and name some characteristics of fish.
