Description

Our Martin Luther King Jr. lesson plan introduces students to the great Civil Rights leader, Martin Luther King. Students are taken on a journey of King’s life and learn about the significance, influence, and impact he had on America during his time as a leader for the Civil Rights movement in America during the 1950s and 1960s. Most students are aware that MLK Day is celebrated each year, but may not know the story behind this incredible role model and leader, and how his words and actions have changed many lives. During this lesson, students are asked to discuss questions related to MLK and the Civil Rights movement in small groups and then participate in a class discussion about the things they talked about in their individual groups. Students are also asked to place significant events in Martin Luther King’s life in chronological order.

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify Martin Luther King, explain how his fight for Civil Rights changed America, list facts about his life, and discuss his significance in history.
