In our Rights and Responsibilities lesson plan, students learn what rights and responsibilities are and how they are related but different. Students connect this lesson to their own lives by listing some rights and responsibilities in their own households.

Description

Our Rights and Responsibilities lesson plan

explores the relationship between rights and responsibilities in everyday life and in society. During this lesson, students are asked to tell whether given scenarios are a right or a responsibility and either sketch a drawing or cut an image from a magazine that correctly matches each right or responsibility. Students are also asked to identify their own rights and responsibilities at home, connecting the lesson material to their real lives.

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to define rights and responsibilities, give examples of each, and explain the relationship between them in their lives and in society.

Rights and Responsibilities

I used this short lesson with my 6 and 10 year old at the same time. It has been so helpful explaining basic rights and responsibilities, and why we need to be aware of them. We have referred back to this lesson several times since learning the differences. Thank you!
