Westward Expansion

In our Westward Expansion lesson plan, students learn about the U.S.’s expansion west, including the key events that led up to it and its lasting impact. Students will learn the path and years in which westward expansion occurred and will be able to label a map with the correct year that each state or territory was added.

Our Westward Expansion lesson plan identifies key events leading to the expansion and its impact on the United States. During this lesson, students are asked to label different maps with the states that were part of the United States during different years and periods of history to clearly display to students what was added when. Students are also asked to identify which expansion different states were added in.

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to explain the Westward Movement and its impact on the United States and identify key events leading to expansion.
